Hello, lovely people! I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday.

Again, I’m sorry for the lack of posts lately. I feel like a parrot with the amount of times I’ve said that recently!

On Thursday, I had two interviews and got offered both jobs! It was a hard decision but I chose the one that I felt suited me best, and I am now going to be working as a teaching assistant before returning to my course! Very happy indeed.

As I’ve not been reading much (but I am reading Symbiosis by Guy Portman!), I thought I’d post another tag! Enjoy!

What are your top three book pet hates?
Folding the corners down (dog-earring), not returning books you’ve borrowed and leaving crumbs in the book!

Describe your perfect reading spot
The sofa, wrapped in a blanket. It’s a recliner seat so I can get nice and comfy and I have a plug next to me so I can always plug in my Kindle in an emergency!

Tell us three book confessions.
I’m not an Austen fan.

When was the last time you cried during a book?
I’m afraid I cry quite often in books! I’m a bit sad like that!

How many books are on your bedside table?
Well, my kindle is on my bedside table, so thousands… but I also have the Hairy Biker’s autobiography in hardback.

What is your favourite snack to eat while you’re reading?
Pringles, Doritos or biscuits!

Name three books you would recommend to everyone.
This is hard as there are so many!

Show us a picture of your favourite shelf on your bookcase.
I don’t really have my books on show… which I know makes me a terrible person! My books are all on a shelf, but they’re doubled up. They’re only really there for storage until I get my own house!

Write how much books mean to you in three words.
The absolute world.

What is your biggest reading secret?
I haven’t read all of the Harry Potter books…

Book News: ‘Symbiosis’ by Guy Portman

Hello!

I’m really excited for this new release, so I thought I would share with you all! I’ve not read anything by Guy Portman before but I follow his blog and the synopsis for this sounds great!

Here’s the cover:

What do you think?

Here’s the synopsis:

Identical twins Talulah and Taliah have never been apart. Viewed as curiosities by children and adults alike, they coexist in an insular world with their own secret language. But being identical doesn’t necessarily mean being equal…

Soon a series of momentous events will send Talulah and Taliah spiralling out of control, setting them on a collision course with a society that views them as two parts of a whole. Will their symbiotic relationship survive?

Perceptive and poignant, Symbiosis explores our enduring fascination with twins and the complexities of twinship.

How interesting does that sound?!

Symbiosis is released on the 21st of January. You can pre-order on Amazon UK and Amazon US now.

Review: ‘Void’ by David M. Staniforth

I have awarded this book 5 stars.

VOID medSynopsis: A void in one’s memory is filled with more than the fear of not knowing,
it swirls with the dread of what those missing memories might contain.
When a young man wakens in a freezing car, his mind a complete blank,
he embarks upon a journey that brings that very dread to the fore.

Who is he?
What has he done?
Where does he belong?
Why can he not remember?

VOID: a psychological journey of discovery that forces the question: To what extent can our memories be trusted?

Review:  This was a really interesting read. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I lost a week or more of my time each year and didn’t remember where I went or who I was!

This story was believable and interesting. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep my attention and I didn’t see them coming at all. I really liked the character of Tom and found myself feeling very sympathetic to his plight, particularly at the beginning of the story when he didn’t know who he was!

What I really liked about the story was it was written in such a way that the reader was finding out the information at the same time as the characters, rather than the story jumping backwards and forwards. This kept up the level of suspense in the story.

I would definitely recommend this story to anyone looking for a good read. You certainly won’t be disappointed!

★★★★★ – An interesting, believable story about a man who goes missing and doesn’t remember who he is for a week each January. Highly recommended!

Where to buy:
Amazon UK (Kindle)
Amazon US (Kindle)

Book News: Whiskey Devils by Brandon Zenner

Hello, lovely people!

I wanted to let you know about a book that’s going to be released on Friday (15th January, 2016). It’s called ‘Whiskey Devils’ and it’s written by Brandon Zenner.

I read and reviewed ‘The Experiment of Dreams’ by Zenner last year and really enjoyed it, so I’m excited to see what this new release is like!

Here is the cover:

Whisky Devils With Tagline - High Resolution

Looks good, doesn’t it? Simple but attractive.

The books catch line is: ‘Running a criminal enterprise is hard work.’

Here is the synopsis:

A twisting thriller: Evan Powers has become the new manager in Nick Grady’s well-established marijuana growing operation. Led by his roommate and best friend, little has changed in Nick’s secretive business since the late ‘60s, which is just the way the aging hippie would like it to remain. However, Nick’s complex past comes full circle, thrusting Evan in a scramble to decipher the truth behind the enigmatic lives of the people he holds dear. Deep in the woods, demons will be unleashed.

What do you think? Let me know!

You can order the book at Amazon UK or Amazon US. Available now for pre-order!

I have included the first chapter of the book below. Enjoy!

Do the greatest libraries have a white colour scheme?

When asked what their favourite library is, most people will say the library from Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (See left). Pretty amazing, right? White with a gold trim, it certainly stands out!

This is not the only great library that uses a white colour scheme, though. Here are a couple real-life libraries that use a white colour scheme, too.

Marfa Palace Library, Portugal.

How awesome does this library look? Apparently, there is a colony of bats that live here during the winter, eating the bugs that would usually damage the library books. How cool is that?

Admont Abbey Library, Austria

Yet another library with a white colour scheme. Apparently, the original collection of books were re-bound in white to match the colour scheme. I think this is taking the colour scheme a bit too far!

The George Peabody Library, USA.

With wall to wall bookshelves, this library is made primarily from iron. It may not have any sculptures, but it’s certainly striking!

The Theological Hall, Prague (Strahov Abbey)

This library is certainly striking. Just look at the detail on the ceiling!! Yet again, the colour scheme is white! I’m loving the globes in the middle of the room, too!

So, what do you think? Is there a reason for this white colour scheme? Does the colour scheme make a library great? Is the white supposed to be more inviting than dark wood panelling?

Yes, I post-it note EVERYTHING.
