Tag: The Book Blogger Test

Hello, lovely people! I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday.

Again, I’m sorry for the lack of posts lately. I feel like a parrot with the amount of times I’ve said that recently!

On Thursday, I had two interviews and got offered both jobs! It was a hard decision but I chose the one that I felt suited me best, and I am now going to be working as a teaching assistant before returning to my course! Very happy indeed.

As I’ve not been reading much (but I am reading Symbiosis by Guy Portman!), I thought I’d post another tag! Enjoy!

What are your top three book pet hates?
Folding the corners down (dog-earring), not returning books you’ve borrowed and leaving crumbs in the book!

Describe your perfect reading spot
The sofa, wrapped in a blanket. It’s a recliner seat so I can get nice and comfy and I have a plug next to me so I can always plug in my Kindle in an emergency!

Tell us three book confessions.
I’m not an Austen fan.

When was the last time you cried during a book?
I’m afraid I cry quite often in books! I’m a bit sad like that!

How many books are on your bedside table?
Well, my kindle is on my bedside table, so thousands… but I also have the Hairy Biker’s autobiography in hardback.

What is your favourite snack to eat while you’re reading?
Pringles, Doritos or biscuits!

Name three books you would recommend to everyone.
This is hard as there are so many!

Show us a picture of your favourite shelf on your bookcase.
I don’t really have my books on show… which I know makes me a terrible person! My books are all on a shelf, but they’re doubled up. They’re only really there for storage until I get my own house!

Write how much books mean to you in three words.
The absolute world.

What is your biggest reading secret?
I haven’t read all of the Harry Potter books…

Tag: The Secret Life of a Book Blogger!

I saw this and thought it would be good for my first post of the new year – a little bit about me!

1. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A BLOGGER?
Almost two years. I started my blog in May 2014.

2. AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL STOP BLOGGING?
I’m not sure, really. When I run out of things to say!

3. WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?
Being able to interact with people with the same interests as you, and being approached by authors to read their book!

4. WHAT IS THE WORST THING? WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE IT OKAY?
Having to tell an author that you don’t like their book.

5. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO CREATE/FIND PICTURES TO USE?
I’m really bad for just taking images off Google! It takes me so long to create a post, I don’t then want to spend ages making a picture to go with it! Sorry!

6. WHO IS YOUR BOOK CRUSH?
I’m not really sure I have one…

7. WHAT AUTHOR WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE ON YOUR BLOG?
Giovanna Fletcher. I follow her blog and she seems like a lot of fun.

8. WHAT DO YOU WEAR WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR BLOG POSTS?
Usually my pjs! I’m either writing posts first thing in the morning or late at night!

9. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO PREPARE?
Quite a long time! Thinking of a post, writing the post, editing and re-editing! It’s a long process, and even then I’m not always happy with what I post!

10. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK BLOGGER COMMUNITY?
I adore the book blogger community. They’re helpful, supportive and friendly. Exchanging ideas is welcomed and encouraged and people are willing to share posts they like, rather than worry about their own blog ratings!

11. WHAT DO YOU THINK ONE SHOULD DO TO GET A SUCCESSFUL BLOG?
Interact with as many bloggers as possible. The book blogger community is what makes a blog successful! Also, don’t post for the sake of posting. The book blogging community is very understanding and forgiving and they will be okay with not seeing you around for a while if what you’re posting is interesting!

Tag – Season’s Greetings!

Minions Christmas

I was nominated for this tag by the wonderful Alex Raphael. Thank you, Alex!

If you don’t know Alex’s blog, I’d strongly suggest you take a look! His posts are always interesting and insightful! Definitely worth a read!

So, here are my answers…

1) FAVORITE BOOK/S TO READ DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON?
My favourite Christmas story is ‘T’was the Night Before Christmas’ and I love reading it at Christmas!

2) TELL US YOUR BEST CHRISTMAS MEMORY.
Hmm, this is difficult. I have lots of good memories of the family gathering together at Grandma’s and having a big boxing day dinner. We eat until we feel sick, then we wait a while and eat some more! We always play a board  game or a card game. It’s just lovely to have everyone together!

3) FAVORITE FICTIONAL WINTER WONDERLAND?

4). SNOW MAN OR SNOW ANGEL?
Snow angel!

5) WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY MOVIE?
I always forget how great Christmas movies are until they start showing them in December! I do love The Grinch and I do love Elf, but there are some wonderful Christmas movies out there!

6) IF YOU COULD SPEND THE HOLIDAYS ANYWHERE (FICTION OR NON-FICTION,) WHERE WOULD YOU GO?
New York. I always see it in films and it looks so magical, especially at Christmas. I’d love to experience that!

7) WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET UNDER THE MISTLETOE?
My wonderful fiancé, Jon. He is absolutely amazing and I don’t know what I’d do without him!

8) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HOT HOLIDAY DRINK?
A nice hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows!

9) WHAT AUTHOR FROM ANY TIME WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A CUP WITH?
JRR Tolkien. I found out during my degree that Tolkien could speak fluent Anglo-Saxon! How fascinating is that?

10) WHAT BOOK ARE YOU HOPING SANTA WILL BRING YOU?
I’m not sure I’ve asked for any books this year! I’m so behind on the books that I have on my Kindle that I thought it would be a bit of  a waste to ask for more books.  If there is a book I really want. my birthday is in February!

I’m tagging…

Anyone that wants to do this! It’s such a fun tag 🙂 If you decide to do this tag, please comment underneath so I can see your answers! 🙂

Thanks again to Alex Raphael for tagging me!

Happy Holidays!

Tag: Readers Problems!

I haven’t been tagged to do this, but it looked fun! Here are my answers:

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?
I usually go by what I’m in the mood to read, whether it has been recommended to me, or whether it grabs me during the first few opening pages!

You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?
I usually stop reading it and switch to something else. There are so many books on my TBR list that I don’t want to spend time reading something that I’m not going to love! Plus, I might come back to it at a later date.

The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?
I’ve never actually participated in a Goodreads challenge! I don’t like feeling as if I HAVE to read – It just makes it so I don’t enjoy it!

The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?
It doesn’t really bother me, if I’m truly honest. Plus, on Kindle I wouldn’t necessarily notice!

Everyone and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?
This has happened to me quite a few times! Especially during my A Level English Literature class where I had to read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald! I was the only one in the class that didn’t like it!

You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?
I just let it out! I tend to get quite wrapped up in books, especially when I’m on the train, so often this happens without me noticing until people ask what I’m reading or if I’m okay!

A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book?
I feel really bad admitting this, but I usually just read my review (if I’ve written it) or look up reviews for the book on Amazon or Goodreads! It’s not very often I forget a book, though.

You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?
I usually say that I’ve already promised it to a family member to borrow!

Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?
I usually try something a bit out of my comfort zone! I either find something that I wouldn’t have tried before, or I think ‘nope. I’m going back to -insert book I started in the last month-‘!

There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?
I tend to get quite a few Amazon gift cards, so I’m usually able to buy a lot of what I REALLY want to read!

After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?
Not very long! I read quite fast, so I get through quite a high number of books!

Those are my answers! What do you think?

What would your answers be?

Tag: Day and Night!

D: Do you read more in the morning or at night?
I tend to read more at night. My mornings are usually quite busy!

A: Are there any books that changed the way you thought about things?
Too many to list here!

Y: YA or not?
I love a bit of YA!

A: Are there any characters you honestly believe to be real?
Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee!

N: Nobody borrows my books or I don’t mind lending them out?
I don’t mind lending my books out if they’re looked after. Mess up my book, though, and you won’t be borrowing any ever again!

D: Do you ever smell your books?
Doesn’t everyone?

N: Not everyone likes books, is this a positive or a negative?
A positive because it’s a quick way of knowing who I shouldn’t bother talking to! 😉 I’m joking, of course. Everyone is entitled to like different things, so it’s neither a positive or a negative

I: I keep my books in the best condition or maybe not? Which are you?
Best condition! Though my favourite books aren’t in perfect condition due to over-reading!

G: Gosh I have too many books! True or False?
Can anyone ever really have too many books?

H: Have you ever spilled or stained your books before with something, and if so how?
Nope! My dad dropped one of my books in the bath before, though! Does that count?

T: Toned or un-toned while reading? . . or in other words. . .Do you read and workout at the same time?
Nope! I find it difficult to do my yoga/pilates while reading! My focus is usually on not falling over!

Tag: Ultimate book tag!

Do you get sick while reading in the car?
Yes, but then I get sick doing anything in a car. Even just sitting looking straight ahead.

Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
Hmm. That’s a really difficult question!

Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga?
Harry Potter, 100%. Twilight teaches that a woman cannot live without a man, whereas Harry Potter shows numerous strong women. Frankly, Twilight should have an age rating so that young girls do not see this as a relationship that they should strive for.

Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is it in (besides books…)?
I take a book bag to university with me, but it’s full of bad things like crisps and chocolate to keep me awake during the really boring lectures!

Do you smell your books?
Of course. Doesn’t everyone?

Books with or without little illustrations?
It depends what kind of book it is. A children’s book or a text book needs picture. Books that I read in my personal time do not.

What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
I hate to say it, but Harry Potter! I’ve only read the first couple of books!

Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood?
I once burst into tears in class because of a book I was reading. Oops!

What is the thinnest book on your shelf?
Um. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad?

What is the thickest book on your shelf?
The Canturbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
I do write as well as read but, no, I don’t see myself as being an author in the future. To be honest, I just don’t have the confidence to share that part of me with the world.

When did you get into reading?
For as long as I can remember, my grandpa used to read me bedtime stories when I stayed at their house. I remember being amazed that words can put an image in my head, so I was desperate to learn to read. My love of reading grew from there.

What is your favorite classic book?
Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

In school was your best subject English?
Surprisingly, no. I hated English in school. They made us read books that I wasn’t interested in (yeah, that’s you, Austen) and I just didn’t enjoy it. My favourite subject was History.

If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?
I would say thank you, that I had read the book before and that I was looking to add it to my bookshelf so it was the perfect gift. They don’t need to know that it will sit on my bookshelf collecting dust and I can get it out when they visit! haha

What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
David Staniforth’s Fuel to the Fire series. Similar in the way that it also teaches you about being a better person and staying true to yourself.

What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while blogging?
Not reading it through before hitting publish. It means I don’t always cover everything that I want to say and I have to go back and edit it!

What is your favourite word?
That’s so difficult as it changes daily!

Are you a nerd or a dork? Or both?
I always get these confused. Is it a nerd is a bookworm and a geek is computers? If that’s right, then I am a nerd.

Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Fairies. I think that Vampires have been done to death a bit. Having said that, one of my all time favourite films is The Lost Boys, a vampire film…

Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
Angels, I think. I just find them a bit more interesting.

Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
Werewolves, as I don’t know much about spirits.

Zombies or Vampires?
Vampires, because I think I would blend in as a Vampire (I’m pale and nocturnal) but I wouldn’t survive around zombies!

Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?
Love Triangle, I think.

Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
It depends on my mood! At the moment, action-packed!

Tag: Inside Out!

I haven’t been tagged to do this, but I love doing tags! I also don’t know who created this. If you know, please let me know so I can update it! Feel free to join in!

I: Inside flap/back of the book summaries: Too much info? Or not enough?

I hate having too much information in book summaries! I like to know very basic information about what a book includes and what time period it’s set in, but I definitely don’t want it to give anything away!

N: New book: What form do you want it in? Be honest: audio book, e-book, paperback, or hard-cover?

I’m afraid I’m going to have to go with e-book! I used to be paperback only, but I have a small bedroom and I love being able to carry lots of books at one time without breaking my back. Sorry!

S: Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your books, taking notes, making comments, or do you keep your books clean clean clean?

This is another thing I love about my Kindle – I can make notes about books without having to write on them! I used to use notebooks, but it took a while to find the notes I wanted!

I: In your best voice, read for us your favourite first sentence from a book.

*ahem*
“People are predictable. That’s what makes them easy to kill”.

From: The Kult by Shaun Jeffrey

D: Does it matter to you whether the author is male or female when you’re deciding on a book? What if you’re unsure of the author’s gender?

Not at all. I’ve known female authors write awesomely gruesome crime books and male authors write adorable love stories. Gender is completely irrelevant!

E: Ever read ahead? Or have you ever read the last page way before you got there?

I never read ahead!

O: Organised bookshelves, or outrageous bookshelves?

Organised bookshelves!

U: Under oath: have you ever bought a book based on the cover (alone)?

Yes! When I was younger I picked up the first in the Heartland series by Lauren Brooke just because it had a horse on it!

T: Take it outside to read, or stay in?

Both! I like to read anywhere and everywhere!
